Create Topics via API?

Is there a way to batch-create and schedule topics via the API? As far as I know it's only possible to download forum content via the API as CSV or JSON.

Hi  , great question! At this time, the API is read-only, so it isn’t possible to create or schedule topics via the API. While you can access data programmatically in JSON or CSV format, topic creation is managed through the admin interface or directly in the community. We’re always evaluating new capabilities, so we appreciate your interest in this!

Yes, we batch-prepare topics, thumbnails, and descriptions now in the backend, it would be great if we wouldn't need to go through topic creation individually.

Thanks for the follow-up. That’s a great use case. We’ve passed this along to our product team and really appreciate you sharing the insight!

I am currently trying to script accessing the API via python, but when I create an API token, get Status-1 returns, indicating that the API key is valid, but it does not have permission to access the forum data, or the API is restricted for your user/key. Does the API-endpoint of our community need to have additional permissions to do that?

When you create an API token, make sure it’s tied to a user who has the right access. It's best to use a dedicated user you create just for the token, and they need to be an email login user (not logged in via SSO). Here’s how to set it up.
