I see how to do so on desktop, but not in phone browser view. Can you show me?

Hi Doug , thanks for your question! To use private messaging on your phone, click the talk bubble icon at the top of the screen, then click View all Messages. From there you can view an existing conversation or send a new message. Here is a screencast:
