Gamification Overview

Gamification brings a rewarding, game-like experience to your community, encouraging engagement and celebrating valuable member contributions. The Gamification module gives you the flexibility to build a customized recognition system using badges, points, and progress tracking.

Key Features

Automated Badges

Automatically award badges based on member activity and milestones. You define the criteria and Forumbee tracks behavior and assigns badges accordingly.

Badge types include:

  • Timed Badges: Recognize recent activity within a rolling timeframe (e.g., “Top Contributor—Last 30 Days”).

  • Achievement Badges: Celebrate one-time accomplishments like first post, profile completion, or receiving a like.

  • Progress Badges: Track repeatable actions, such as every 5 replies or 10 questions asked.

  • Best of Community Badges: Highlight your most active contributors during a defined period.

Manual Badges

Award badges manually for offline achievements such as course completions or certifications. Or use it to provide personalized recognition from community managers.

Custom Badge Design

Create a visual identity for your gamification system:

  • Upload custom badge images

  • Set your own titles and descriptions

  • Customize member-facing messages when badges are awarded

Points System

Assign point values to a wide variety of member actions:

  • Posting or replying

  • Receiving likes or accepted answers

  • Following topics or members

  • RSVPing to events

  • Earning badges

Points accumulate over time and are displayed in a special Points badge, giving members a sense of their growing contribution to the community.

How Badge Rules Work

The rules engine automatically detects member activity and assigns badges. Criteria can include:

  • Frequency (e.g., daily logins, weekly replies)

  • Action type (e.g., sharing ideas, providing accepted answers)

  • Location (e.g., posts in specific categories or topic types)

  • Milestones (e.g., 10 followers, 25 likes received)

  • Behavior triggers (e.g., attending an event, following a member)

Badges can be designed to:

  • Be awarded once or recur with progress

  • Combine multiple triggers

  • Include logic to revoke a badge if conditions change

Why Gamification?

  • Boost engagement with visible recognition
  • Encourage helpful, community-focused behaviors
  • Create a sense of momentum and achievement
  • Motivate continued contributions
  • Highlight your most active and valuable members
