Using a custom domain

You can make your community and knowledge base more integrated with your company website by removing "forumbee" from the URL and using your own company domain name. For example, community.mycompany.com instead of mycompany.forumbee.com .

Where your domain name is registered, you need to create a subdomain and configure it so that when a user browses to that subdomain address, they are sent to your Forumbee community. A subdomain might be something like community.mycompany.com or help.mycompany.com , where community and help are the subdomains.

Steps to use your company domain:

1. In your company DNS, configure the subdomain.

For this step, consult with your system administrator or IT team before proceeding.

In your DNS locate the CNAME entry for the subdomain you are using (for example: community), or create the CNAME entry if it does not exist. Point that CNAME entry to your forumbee community URL, such as mycompany.forumbee.com. The CNAME settings are as follows:

  1. Set the CNAME record “name” to the subdomain you will be using (Example: community)
  2. Set the CNAME record “value” to your forumbee domain (Example: mycompany.forumbee.com)

2. Enable your custom domain in Forumbee.

In Admin, navigate to Settings. Click to expand the Custom Domain panel.

Check "Enable domain aliasing" and enter the custom domain you will be using, such as community.mycompany.com. Then click Save.

Note: After your domain is configured and verified, we will provision an SSL certificate for your account. It may take up to 24 hours for your custom domain to become active.

I have followed the steps outlined, but there's a message that I do not understand:

    "Your DNS Status: not configured"

Neil thanks for your question! I checked your DNS setting and it looks like the subdomain is configured with an A record instead of a CNAME record. The CNAME record is required. You can use a third party tool such as MXToolbox to check your DNS settings: https://mxtoolbox.com/CnameLookup.aspx

Forumbee Support Is there a downside to using the A record instead of the CNAME record? It appears that redirection from our "vanity" URL works properly.

Neil A redirect means that your custom URL will not display in the users browser when they view your community. For this reason, you need a CNAME pointing to forumbee.com .
