Private messaging and chat feature released
We are excited to announce the release of Private Messaging! Members can now chat online and send direct messages.
To enable this feature for your community, check the option in Admin > Settings > Messaging:
When Messaging is enabled, the option to send a message will display on member Profile Cards and Profile Pages:
If you receive a message while you are online, a chat window will open where you can continue the conversation in chat mode:
If you receive messages while you are offline, you’ll be notified by email.
In the community, the new message indicator will display a count of your new messages:
Click a message to view it:
Click View all Messages to access the Messaging area. The Messaging area provides access to all of your conversations, with the option to archive. You can also send new messages from here.
Opt out and Blocking options
- Members can opt out of receiving private messages in their Notification Settings area.
- Members can choose to no longer receive messages from another member by blocking them. The block option is available in the chat window and on the user profile page.

As an administrator, you can disable the private messaging feature for a specific member. Go to Admin > Users and click a user row to expand the options panel. Under Permissions, check Disable private messaging.

I can't seem to find a way to send a message to another member from my mobile device. Is this possible?

Can admins/moderators see other peoples' private messages?
