Release Update: Control Member Sign-ups by Email Domain

We're excited to announce a new feature that gives you more control over your community membership. You can now manage which email domains are allowed for new member sign-ups.

Key Features

  • Block free email providers: Automatically prevent sign-ups from over 3,000 free email domains including Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail
  • Custom domain blocking: Define specific domains you want to block from signing up
  • Moderation options: Alternatively, require moderator approval for sign-ups from free email providers or specific domains

Use Cases

This feature is perfect for:

  • Creating company-specific communities that require corporate email addresses
  • Reducing spam by limiting free email providers
  • Adding an extra layer of moderation for certain email domains

How to Enable

These settings can be configured in Admin > Settings > Moderation

For detailed instructions and examples, please see controlling member sign-ups by email domain.

All of a sudden, a user was able to register for my community using a GMAIL account. I don't understand how that is possible as I've blocked sign-ups from "free" email providers using this new functionality. When I clicked on "View List" I noticed that there are underscores ('_') in the provider domains and not periods (','). Could this be the problem or do you suspect it is something else?

Hi Neil , the block signup feature will only block new users from signing up. If a user already has an account, it doesn't prevent them from changing their email to gmail, which is likely what happened in this case.
