Understanding and Managing Tags

Tags are a powerful way to organize and categorize content in your Forumbee community. They help users find related content quickly and enable them to follow specific topics of interest. This guide explains how to use and manage tags in your Forumbee community.

What Are Tags?

Tags are keywords or labels that can be attached to topics in your community. They:

  • Help categorize and organize content
  • Make it easier for users to find related discussions
  • Allow users to follow specific topics of interest
  • Provide a way to filter and browse community content

Using Tags as a Community Member

Adding Tags to Topics

When creating a new topic, you can select relevant tags from the available options. The tags you can choose from may be limited based on the category you're posting in, as administrators can restrict certain tags to specific categories.

Finding Tagged Content

There are several ways to find content using tags:

  • Click on a tag in any topic to see all posts with that tag
  • Use the search function and select the "Categories" tab to find relevant tags
  • Visit the Tags area (/tags) to browse all available tags

Following Tags

To stay updated on topics that interest you:

  1. Navigate to the Tags area in your community (/tags)
  2. Find the tag you want to follow
  3. Click the follow option for that tag

Managing Tags as an Administrator

Creating New Tags

  1. Go to Admin > Categories > Tags

  2. Enter the tag name and click Add

  3. Your tag has been created. For additional options, click the edit icon

  4. (Optional) Add a tag description to help users understand when to use the tag
  5. (Optional) Restrict the tag to specific categories. Uncheck "All categories" and check the categories to restrict to.

Restricting Tags to Categories

You can limit where certain tags can be used:

  1. During tag creation or editing, uncheck "All categories"
  2. Select the specific categories where the tag should be available
  3. Save your changes

This feature is particularly useful for:

  • Maintaining distinct tags for knowledge base content
  • Preventing customer misuse of administrative or specialized tags
  • Organizing content more effectively across different community sections

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive tag names
  • Add descriptions to tags when their purpose might not be immediately clear
  • Regularly review tag usage to ensure they remain relevant
  • Consider restricting specialized tags to appropriate categories
  • Maintain a consistent tagging strategy across your community
